Tips for Stopping Your Bags From Slipping Off Your Shoulder
If you’re a busy mom like me, you know the struggle of keeping your bag from slipping off your shoulder. Whether it’s a laptop bag, tote, or purse, we’ve all been there—fighting to keep the bag in place until we drop it into a chair and call it quits. Slippage is frustrating and can lead to discomfort, dropped items, and an overall hassle. As someone who has experimented with every kind of bag out there, I’d like to offer some tips for stopping your bags from slipping off your shoulder!
Tips For Stopping Your Bags From Slipping Off Your Shoulder

Choose the Right Strap Material
One of the biggest culprits behind slipping bags is the strap material. Smooth leather or synthetic straps can easily slide off your shoulder. Instead, look for straps made of textured materials such as canvas, suede, or those with added grip. These materials provide better friction and help keep your bag in place.
Adjust the Strap Length
Sometimes, the solution is as simple as adjusting the strap length. A strap that’s too long can cause the bag to swing and slip, while a short strap might be uncomfortable. Find a length that rests comfortably on your shoulder without too much excess. I’ve found this change can make a huge difference, especially with heavier bags.
Use a Bag Clip or Accessory
Adding a clip or accessory to your strap can work wonders. Clips, such as those used for securing camera straps, can add extra grip. Alternatively, try using a cute scarf or a piece of textured fabric tied around the strap. I sometimes turn to this solution to add a bit of flair and increase friction to keep annoying bag straps in place.
Distribute Weight Evenly
To me, professional laptop bags can always elevate a look, but the weight of a device can really pull a bag right off my shoulder. Distributing the weight evenly inside your bag can help prevent this issue and stop the bag from pulling on the fabric of your top. Place heavier items at the bottom and closer to your body to balance the bag and reduce the chances of it slipping.
Consider a Crossbody Style
If all else fails, I’d say switching to a crossbody style might be your best bet. Crossbody bags distribute weight evenly across your body, making them less likely to slip. I also think they’re practical and stylish, especially for short trips or evenings out. When choosing a crossbody, make sure it has an adjustable strap so that you can customize the fit for maximum comfort.
Dealing with slipping bags is a common issue, but with a few adjustments, you can make your daily routine smoother. From choosing the right strap material to considering a crossbody style, these tips for stopping your bags from slipping off your shoulder can save you time and frustration. It took me quite a bit to find the perfect bags for every occasion that wouldn’t cause problems, so don’t be afraid to experiment!
