Are you ready to get your hands on some amazing DIY projects but want to ensure what you make is practical? I know I am! With the following DIY projects you can wear, you can create unique and fashionable pieces without breaking the bank. Let’s get crafty!
DIY Projects You Can Wear

DIY Jewelry
Nothing elevates an outfit like some stylish jewelry, so why not create your own statement pieces? To design a beautiful necklace, gather these materials:
- Beads of your choice (go for different sizes, shapes, and colors)
- Beading wire
- Crimp beads
- Clasp
- Wire cutters
- Crimping tool
To start, measure and cut your beading wire according to the desired necklace length. Slide a crimp bead onto the wire, followed by the clasp. Then, thread the wire back through the crimp bead and use the crimping tool to secure it in place.
Now, it’s time to get creative! String your desired bead patterns onto the wire. And remember that you don’t have to stick to plastic or glass beads; you can explore charms in unique materials like leather. These charms will give your jewelry a rustic charm and are easy to make yourself if you know how to stamp and carve leather. When you’re satisfied with your design, finish the ends with another crimp bead and clasp, just like before.
Embellished Headbands
Why not add a pop of color and style to any hairdo with a DIY headband? Here’s what you need:
- A plain plastic headband
- Ribbon you love
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Optional: decorative buttons or appliqués
Simply apply a tiny dab of hot glue to one end of the headband and press the end of your ribbon firmly against it. Then, wrap the ribbon tightly around the headband until it’s completely covered, applying small dabs of hot glue every couple of inches to keep it in place. Cut off any excess ribbon and secure the end with a final dab of glue. If you wish, add decorative buttons or appliques to your headband for an extra touch of glam.
Tote Bags
Tote bags are practical, versatile, and so simple to make! To create your very own tote bag, you’ll need the following materials:
- Fabric (cotton or canvas works well)
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
- Fabric scissors
- Iron
- Pins
- Optional: fabric paint or iron-on designs
First, cut two pieces of fabric to your preferred size, keeping at least a half-inch allowance for seams. Place the fabric pieces together, right sides facing each other, and pin the sides and bottom. Sew the sides and bottom together, then turn the bag right side out and press gently with an iron. To create sturdy handles, cut two strips of fabric and fold their long edges inward until they meet in the middle. Sew along the entire length, then attach the handles to the bag’s top on both sides. Now, you’re free to customize! Use fabric paint or iron-on designs to give your tote a personal touch.
