How To Reverse Sun Damage
Hi friend,
The summertime sun has retired for the year, but many, are still facing its aftermath. We all like to spend every second of summer enjoying the sun’s warmth and light while embracing the outdoors. I mean, who doesn’t?
However, it’s hard to remember to reapply, so we tend to endure a bit too much fun in the sun. Here are some of my top tips for reversing sun damage. With winter locking us into our homes, there’s no better time to focus on skincare.
How To Reverse Sun Damage
Retinoid Skincare
Retinoids are every skintellectuals favorite ingredient. They are a vitamin A derivative that encourages and stimulates cell turnover and collagen production. The more collagen your skin produces, the faster the cells get to work.
It boosts their regenerative properties, helping the skin replace or repair damaged, dead cells. Collagen also promotes healthier skin structures, skin tightening, and elasticity. In short, retinoids make my wrinkles and fine lines from the summer sun disappear—or at least look smoother.
Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy is a holistic skincare method. And the pods are super fun. There are many ways for estheticians to use red light therapy in their practices, including skin rejuvenation. Like retinoids, red light UV rays stimulate collagen production. They target your cell’s mitochondria—say it with me, “the powerhouse of the cell”—and activate the skin’s natural self-healing process through cell regeneration. Combat the aftereffects of one type of UV ray with another and spend another season basking in the light, just a different kind.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels remove the outer layers of skin, making room for new, fresh cells. While toasting in the sun, its UV rays burn skin cells, damaging and killing them. On the surface level, the dead and damaged cells produce wrinkles, pigmentation, and rougher textures. Chemical peels remove those dead cells and allow new ones to take their place, creating smoother skin.
Vitamin C Serums
Vitamin C, like retinoids, is a super skincare ingredient. It is commonly used in anti-aging products, making it a great tool for taking care of your skin in your 30s. My favorite benefit of Vitamin C? It rejuvenates the skin after sun damage and prevents further damage simultaneously. Like all the other sun-damage aftercare solutions, vitamin C boosts collagen production. However, unlike other treatments, it also limits future damage.
Reverse sun damage after the summer with these four tips and tricks. Although it’s technically impossible to undo the damage, there are plenty of ways to restore and minimize the effects, from red light therapy to vitamin C. Let’s get back to smooth and healthy skin with some winter self-care.
