How To Take Care Of Your Skin In Your 30s
Knowing where to start is the first step in taking care of your skin. Sadly, you’re not 22 anymore and it’s time to take your skincare more seriously. Along with some lifestyle considerations, it’s time to level up your skincare game.
If you don’t already know your skin type, this is the perfect starting point. Finding out if you have dry/mature skin, oily/combination skin, or something else is the best way to know what your skin needs and what ingredients to incorporate into your skincare.
For instance, if your skin is drier, something like a hydrating hyaluronic acid moisturizer would be a great option for more plump and soft skin. So, with your specific skin type and concerns in mind, let’s go over the basics of taking care of your skin in your 30s.
You are always hearing the importance of using SPF daily. This is serious, girl! Sun damage is no joke. Even staying indoors all day exposes your skin to sun and free radical damage from open windows and environmental factors. So please, if you are not already. Wear a clean and non-toxic mineral-based sunscreen every single day.
Another tip for SPF is that you can wear it under your makeup, so don’t worry! Just make sure you wait at least 10 minutes for it to fully absorb before you start applying your makeup! 😉
Retinol (& Alternatives)
Now that we are starting to get older, we need to use stronger anti-aging ingredients in our skincare. The best one out there by far is Retinol. Every woman age 30 and up should absolutely be using a Retinol serum. It’s a fight against aging, texture, and blemishes that our skin so desperately needs.
There are also more natural alternatives including Bakuchiol which is the plant-based version of Retinol that is slightly more gentle and also safe for pregnancy and using mamas. So I highly suggest you get on this miracle ingredient if you are not already including it in your daily lineup.
By now you are probably aware of the importance of using an eye cream, but I wanted to briefly mention it. So here is your reminder to use a daily eye cream to help fight those early signs of aging and keep those Luis Vuitton quality bags at bay.
I recommend using one that’s ultra hydrating and made with powerful ingredients such as once again Retinol, Vitamin C, or Squalene. I really love this one from Fluer & Bee.
Something you may not have realized is that your lips need some TLC too. In fact, your lips are actually the first thing that starts to age so it’s time to get on that helps with those little lip lines and dehydration with a soothing and moisturizing lip oil.
So as we get older we should consider how we wear and apply our makeup. Doing things the same way as we did in college probably isn’t still the best practice. So here are a few tips on how to look younger and more fresh with makeup now that you’re in your 30s.
Starting with eyeshadow, lighter is better. Well, for every day anyway. Darker colors are beautiful for nights out and sultry looks, but they can age you a bit. So for everyday looks, go for lighter and more neutral colors to create a more youthful and casual look.
Use contour products sparingly and only where you want to create a chiseled jawline. Don’t go over the top. Stick with the basics and use contour to create a simple lifted and sculpted look in your natural cheekbone shadow.
The last makeup tip is to use cream blush. Powder blush can settle into lines and look a bit cakey on older skin. Also, applying it upwards from the top of your cheekbone up towards your hairline creates a lifted look. So basically, you can give yourself a facelift with makeup!
Lastly, here are a few lifestyle tips to help your skin glow and keep you looking and feeling your best. Of course, you know…water, water, water! Drink lots of water! Slow down on consuming sugar-heavy foods. I know…not what any woman wants to hear…it is a tragic thing to hear. But sugar can be an enemy for healthy skin. So cutting back on sugary foods is a good idea to keep your glow glowing.
Supplements are another great thing to introduce into your daily routine. A daily multivitamin, as well as a skin health supplement, are musts. The BioYouth Supplements from Gundry MD are amazing! I have been taking them and I actually see a difference in my skin! Find them as well as their other wonderful supplements right here!
Sleep is another factor. We can’t always control how much we sleep per night ( insomnia sufferer over here…) but it does play a major part in how our body functions, including the appearance of our skin. So try your best to get a good night’s sleep, they do call it beauty sleep for a reason!
Speaking of sleep, switching to a silk pillowcase can potentially help as well. From preventing sleep lines, combating frizzy hair, and more, a silk pillowcase is a must-have. I am in love with mine!
