How To Deep Clean Your Living Room
Hey friend!
Whether you’re having company over or just need to do some seasonal cleaning, it’s important to clean everything in your living room from time to time. A living room is often the most-used room in the house, meaning it collects dirt, dust, and odors more quickly than other areas. Here’s how I deep clean everything in my living room.
How To Deep Clean Your Living Room
Light Fixtures and Fans
If you plan on cleaning your ceiling fan, do it before you clean anything else, or you’ll just get dust on your newly cleaned furniture. Make sure the fan is off, and then wipe down the blades with a damp paper towel. Unplug lamps before cleaning out shades and dusting stands.

Or, for a quick hack use an old pillowcase to dust the fan blades! It’s much easier and the dust mainly stays inside the case and doesn’t settle into the air. Thanks, TikTok! 🙂
Sofa Cushions and Pillows
To clean your couch, you’ll first want to take off all the cushions and pillows and vacuum the interior (yes, it will be gross). Before you put things back, spot clean any stains according to the upholstery care instructions. I also shake out my cushions and pillows to get rid of dust and to restore fluffiness.
Coffee and End Tables
If your furniture is made of wood, use a mild spray polish and a soft cloth to wipe down tables, removing dust and pet hair gently. Use the crevice attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove crumbs from around the edges of each table. If your tables have glass, wipe them down on each side with some glass cleaner and a paper towel.
Entertainment Center
The main thing to remember when wiping down your entertainment center is to avoid using wet cloths around electrical cords and electronics. You’ll also want to make sure you’re not using a cloth with wood polish or cleaning product residue when wiping down those items because it can leave behind oily streaks.
Area Rugs
When you deep clean everything in your living room, don’t forget to clean your area rugs. Rugs collect all sorts of dirt from normal use, and they need occasional cleaning to maintain color and softness. No matter how tempting it is, never put your rugs in the washing machine—instead, follow the care instructions or call a professional.
The living room is often the busiest room of the house, so it gets dirty more quickly than in other rooms. Follow these tips to give your living room the deep clean it deserves. It’s not called a chore for nothing, but hopefully, your next deep cleaning day goes quickly and easily!
