I love patterned curtains that add a little style to any themed room but ditch those drapes if you want to make a small space look bigger. Having drapes cover your windows stops natural light from flooding in and eliminates the view. If you still wish to use curtains for privacy purposes, purchase a bar extending the drapes past the window frame to expose the window entirely.

Choose Paint and Floor Carefully

Throughout redecorating, a general rule I’ve learned is to use lighter colors and floors for a brighter room. Consider a floor type that will open the space for a luxurious, larger feel. Paint the walls with colors that reflect more light, like sage green, dusty blue, off-white, etc.

Of course, this may not be an option for you, but wherever it is possible, use built-in cabinetry and furniture. This takes a small room one step further by creating extra space. Something like having your living room entertainment center built in the wall. This makes the wall in your home appear smoother, flat and gives extra storage space.

Keep It Simple

All in all, keep your room simple. Extra décor and furniture clutter the space and minimize its efficiency. Use neutral colors and maintain a clear path for travel. No guests want to weave in and out of furniture to reach your kitchen. The easy way to make a small room look bigger is to keep things simple.
