Hey friends!
Did you know that there are ways to be more sustainable with your holiday shopping? Even though I might want to purchase everything off Amazon, I discovered some ways to find thoughtful gifts for my family without involving so much waste.
Even though this can seem like another thing to juggle with the already overflowing to-do lists this time of year, I found that shopping responsible retail is easier than I originally thought.

5 Ways To Be More Sustainable With Your Holiday Shopping
Buy Locally
Shopping locally not only supports that business but your community’s economy, too. There are a lot of benefits when you support family-owned businesses, like finding unique products. And by building those relationships, you create connections that could give you better customer service or even a discount.
Thrift Stores
Shopping for your holiday gifts at thrift stores allows you to limit waste and save some money. Most secondhand stores have practically brand-new or new with tag items, so you don’t have to skimp on quality while being eco-friendly.
Zero-Waste Gift
A zero-waste gift is an item that a friend or family member can reuse, like a reusable water bottle or reusable straws. However, this category also includes makeup, toys, and kitchen items, among many others.

A zero-waste product is anything that has little to no packaging, or the packaging or product is recyclable or biodegradable. Overall, a zero-waste product has a much lower carbon footprint and little to no chemical additives. Here are some examples:
- Bamboo Utensils
- Stainless steel plates
- Mesh produce bag and produce bag sets
- Organic cotton clothing
Create Something
If you have the time, creating something yourself can be a personable gift to give a loved one. It doesn’t have to be extravagant; it can be as simple as baking cookies. And if you don’t have time yourself, creating a gift can be a good suggestion for your kids to give to one another.
Experiences
One of the best ways to be more sustainable with your holiday shopping is to give people experiences! Consider giving gift cards for things like traveling, dinners, a class, or a concert. I like to think giving memories is a better gift than any material item.
