Beauty Trends To Avoid When Pregnant

Retinol & Retinoids
Retinol products are fantastic for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, but they aren’t compatible with a developing baby. Retinoids are a type of vitamin A that increases collagen production. Although vitamin A is essential for health, this derivative of it can cause harm during pregnancy. Avoid it for now, and stick to safer skincare products that help moisturize your skin.
A great alternative is bakuchiol which is a plant-based version of retinol and is completely safe during pregnancy! My personal favorite is this one from Acure, it is a trusted company that only uses all clean and non-toxic ingredients and delivers fab anti-aging results!
Chemical Sunscreen
I’m a huge fan of sunscreen! Putting on an SPF moisturizer in the morning is fantastic for keeping my skin healthy-looking and protects it against sun damage. However, chemical sunscreens are a big no-no during pregnancy (and any time honestly) because they have possible hormone disrupters that may impact the baby’s nervous system growth. Instead, wear a big floppy hat, sunglasses, and a scarf, or use mineral sunscreen for safer protection from that rays!
Hair & Lash Treatments
Almost all of us have heard that a beauty trend pregnant women should avoid is getting their hair dyed—this is true! One way to get around this is to get a balayage before you conceive. This technique of hair coloring lasts longer because it’s made to appear naturally sun-kissed. Because of this, it grows out beautifully!
Stay in communication with your doctor about when you can dye again. Avoid chemical straightening as well because this process contains formaldehyde. Lastly, there are risks associated with lash lifts while pregnant as well.
Massage Therapy
I’m a big fan of getting massages. However, you should only work with someone who specializes in and has extensive experience with prenatal massages. Getting bodywork done while pregnant will feel amazing and make your life much more relaxed, but the masseuse needs to know when to use deep pressure and when not to.
Being pregnant is a huge responsibility. By avoiding these beauty trends, you’ll avoid exposing your baby to toxic chemicals. Safer is always better, and by choosing clean products, and avoiding certain treatments you are definitely making the best choices!
