Adventure Awaits You: New Careers for Single Mothers
Hey mamas,
So most people don’t plan on becoming a single parent. (obviously) Something happens, life gets in the way, or you suddenly find yourself the guardian of a little soul that you didn’t plan on but wouldn’t change for anything in the world.
It can be a terrifying change, especially when the question of how you’ll provide for your kids steals your sleep. But that very change and that very question can be the call to yet another new adventure—a new career. These are just a few new careers for single mothers who are looking for a new adventure to start.
These career ideas will work well if you will be needing stable income and are comfortable leaving your child(ren) to work outside the home.
If you are looking for at-home jobs so you can stay home with your littles, then check out this post here.
New Careers For Single Mothers
Bookkeeping
Bookkeeping involves managing business expense records, including keeping track of expenses, filing receipts, receiving invoices, and processing tax forms. Hey, guess what—you’re probably already doing most of this for your own home if you’re a single mom.
But now you’re getting paid for it! Bookkeeping is great because there are usually steady hours and, depending on your employer, you might even be able to work from home.
Certified Nursing Assistant
This is another job that you probably have some transferrable skills for if you’re a mom. Certified nursing assistants work in assisted living facilities or hospitals and tend to patient needs, such as personal hygiene, feeding, exercise, distributing medication, and transporting patients.
You will never have to worry about finding work as a CNA, and you don’t need to go back for a four-year degree. Many nursing programs only last a few weeks and require only a high school diploma or equivalent.
Entrepreneur (mom boss!)
Don’t want to worry about jerky bosses? Be your own! (Unless you yourself are a jerk, in which case, I can’t help you. 😛 ) Starting your own business is one of the more challenging choices on the list, but it is by no means unattainable. This is how I have been working from home as a single mom! <-
After all, as a mom, you are probably already an expert multi-tasker, problem-solver, and hard worker. You will also be uniquely situated to teach your kids about responsibility, finance, and making your dreams a reality.
Copywriting
Copywriting promotional material such as blogs, ads, or written content for businesses is a booming field right now—and I’m not just saying that because I’m currently writing a blog. With businesses putting more and more resources online, the need for copywriters is only increasing across the board.
You can apply with an individual business or digital marketing company, or you can do freelance work and set your own hours.
If the idea of starting a new career as a single mom scares the ever-living daylights out of you, don’t worry. Probably every single mom before you have felt the same way. Don’t despair. Take things one step at a time, give yourself some grace, and begin your new adventure.
You can do this mama! I believe in you!
