Hey mamas,

If you do not have a lot of spare time on your schedule, then working out to stay in shape as a single mom (or dad!) can be a great challenge. Most single parents do not have enough time to take part in regular fitness routines. However, there are things that could be done to ensure that you spare at least 30 minutes each day to keep your body in shape.

Here are some of the best routines that a single mom can do at home to stay healthy and fit!

How To Work Out And Stay In Shape As A Single Mom

  1. Try at-home workouts

Single moms do not have enough time to join a gym or even work out at all. They spend most of their time with their kids and try to ensure that they provide them with the best life. Therefore, it is important that you find a workout program that you can comfortably follow at home like ones provided by fitness apps.

After all, when you have to dress up and step out to take part in an exercise, you are most likely to postpone it. In regards to easy workouts to do at home, the options are endless: skipping rope, using exercise bands, HIIT circuits, or any bodyweight exercise to target specific muscle groups. In fact, on the 30 Day Fitness Challenge app there are hundreds of workouts like this, for example, these bicep exercises with dumbbells that can also be done without equipment.

  1. Warm-up first

Before you start to work out in the morning, make sure that you get your body ready for the exercise by warming up and stretching. This should be done for several minutes until you feel ready for the exercise. You can kick it off with easy stretches and then move into a slow jog to get your muscles ready.

Warming before you work out is crucial for flexibility and preventing injury. It is especially important if you’re returning to fitness after a period of not being active, this way you will ease your muscles into exercise and not risk any muscle fiber breakage.

  1. Get your little one Involved

As a single mom, you will not have lots of kid-free time. Therefore, you don’t have to wait until you have some; otherwise, you’ll probably put off workouts for life (or at least for 18 years). Since kids are naturally curious and active, you can let them spend quality time with you amid the exercise time.

Whether it is biking, jogging, or playing recreational sports, let them join in to keep you motivated. Who knows, this might even be a great way to tire them out and enjoy some blissful rest in the evening. Fitness is important, so it’s good to let your kids see you being active and living a healthy life. Set the example!

How to Make Time for Exercise

There is never enough time for a parent to be free and do what they love. Therefore, they need to utilize the little time that they get each day. This could be the time when the kids have not woken up or after they have gone to bed at night. You can also do some workout in the backyard while the kids are playing. If you want to get kids involved, you can go on a walk with them as a family.
