Baked Apple Donuts
I wanted to make these donuts at least somewhat healthy, so when I cook or bake, I use healthier alternatives for most of my recipes. Everything I used will be included if you want your donuts to be healthier too!
Since it is almost Halloween we are making ours a bit spooky! Even though my son and I do not really celebrate Halloween, ( we normally opt for alternative activities ) but this year we are leaning a tad more into the Halloween vibes and decided to make these donuts into Halloween donuts!
However, if that’s not your thing or if its’ past Halloween by the time this recipe hits your screen, no worries! Just make them your own. Now, let’s jump into this donut recipe!
The Ingredients
Grab yourself a mixing bowl, and let’s get started.
Mix together 1 cup of flour – ( I use Amaranth flour. )
1/2 cup of sugar – ( any sugar alternative of your choice, if you choose.)
1/2 cup of applesauce.
1/4 cup of melted butter.
1 egg.
1tsp. baking powder.
1 tsp. cinnamon.
1 tsp. vanilla.
1 tsp. maple syrup.
If the mixture is still a bit dry, add a splash of milk.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees, grease your donut pans (yes, donut pans! These are the ones I use -> silicone donut baking pans. ) fill the donut pans with your batter, then bake for about 15 minutes!
The Frosting
For the frosting, I made a cream cheese frosting, but you can do whatever you want! Make your own thing, use store-bought frosting, it’s up to you! But for my basic cream cheese frosting recipe, see below!
Mix together – 1/2 cup softened butter. 8oz. softened cream cheese, and 2 – 4 cups of powdered sugar. (depending on how sweet and how much of it you will like and need!) and 2 tsp. vanilla.
mix it together until you have the perfect frosting texture! Then time to have some fun! If you want to make your frosting a Halloween orange as I did, simply add a few drops of red and yellow food coloring until you reach the desired color. Then top with sprinkles! I used fun Halloween sprinkles, but you can use whatever you like! Regular multi-colored sprinkles work great too!
And there you have it, folks! Enjoy your donuts and I’ll see you next time!
