How To Deal With Anxiety As A Single Mom
Hey, there mama!
I have posted before on the topic of mental and emotional health, as it is something I personally struggle with and is very important to me. In this post, I want to focus on anxiety. It’s a serious problem and can be a very common struggle with us single moms. So let’s go over some info and ways you can deal with anxiety.
How To Deal With Anxiety As A Single Mom
We all experience feelings of anxiety from time-to-time. For some people, like me, these feelings can occur on a regular basis. It is important, therefore, to find ways to manage your anxiety so that it does not have a negative impact on your life or your kids. So, let’s take a look at some useful tips for dealing with anxiety…
Practice breathing techniques –
Firstly, you can get a better hold over your anxiety with breathing techniques. You may notice that you hold your breath when your body is tense. This is why it is a good idea to focus on your breathing, as this will calm your nerves. Listen to the movement of your breath and only concentrate on breathing in and out until you feel better.
Set aside time to worry –
Another effective way to deal with anxiety and stress is to set aside time to worry. This means that you give yourself a certain period throughout the day, for example, you could set aside 20 minutes at 5 p.m. every day and this can be your worry period. During this time you are allowed to worry about anything that has been plaguing your thoughts. This ensures that your anxiety does not take over your day.
Turn your anxiety into a movie –
Another effective way to deal with your anxiety is to disconnect yourself from it by turning it into a movie. What??? Yeah, that’s what I said. You should imagine that your thoughts are a show, rather than how you are feeling.
Put them into your own movie and you are the person sitting in the audience watching it, rather than being an active participant. This can help you to become a calm observer and your worries will drift away.
Get help –
Last but not least, if you feel like your anxiety is taking over your life, it really is important to seek help before the problem gets worse and worse. There is no shame in reaching out to someone for help with your anxiety, and there are so many different ways you can go about seeking help. It took me until I was almost 30 to finally see a doctor and admit that I needed help.
If you do not want to meet up with a professional in person, why not try online teletherapy? This is something that a lot of people feel more comfortable with. Plus, it is beneficial for those who do not have any therapists near to their home.
However, in-person therapy and or counseling can be extremely beneficial and if you would like to do some research on the cost and to see what is available near you, I highly recommend checking out BetterHelp!
Hopefully, you now feel more prepared to deal with the anxiety you are suffering from. There is no denying that anxiety can be difficult to get under control and it can have an impact on all elements of your life. However, if you follow the suggestions that have been provided, you should be able to cope with this more effectively.

Breathing deeply, meditating, feeling my fears and doing deep yin yoga helped me move from fear to love, as my dominant vibe. When I feel anxiety I am with it more now….and I also focus so much on helping folks that I feel so good about being of service that anxiety rarely creeps into my mind.
