How To Be A Marvelous Role Model For Your Children

How to be a marvelous role model for your children. | neveralonemom.com

Howdy mamas!

Once again I’m proud to bring you another awesome collaborative post on a topic that is very important. Being a better role model for our kids is something we all need to work on, so stay with me and feel free to jot these ideas down to better implement them going forward.

How To Be A Marvelous Role Model For Your Children

As a single parent, you are the number one and sometimes only role model for your child. They, of course, think you are wonderful and idolize you (until they hit puberty that is!)  They will soak up your attitudes, behaviors and views like a sponge. And it’s for this reason we should be very aware of the kind of example we’re setting for our kids, they are observing and learning even the most subtle of our ways. Here are just a few of the ways we can be a good role model and help them to develop healthy and productive behaviors which will be useful to them later in life.

Be a better role model for your kids | neveralonemom.com

Eat Healthily

Kids are generally picky about food, that isn’t new information for anyone who has kids! However they might refuse things now but in time are likely to go on to mirror your behaviour and food habits. Seeing you filling up on healthy, delicious meals and making good choices will eventually become ingrained in them. Don’t make mealtimes feel stressful or chaotic, try them with new ingredients and if they refuse don’t make a huge deal of it. Try it again in a few weeks, kids tastes can change in a very short space of time and even their mood can determine how open they are to tasting new things. Getting kids involved in the kitchen is a good way to encourage healthy eating and if they’ve helped to make it they’re more likely to try it.

Be Financially Savvy

Having kids is expensive, and being a single mom does not make it any easier, so getting yourself into the best position financially is always worthwhile. You could look into how to consolidate debt, how to boost your savings and how to budget better to get yourself on track. When you have your money in order you’ll be far less stressed from scrimping and saving and trying to make ends meet. Teach children the value of money, instead of giving them pocket money let them earn it. Simple chores such as tidying their room, feeding a pet or loading the dishwasher will make them feel as though they’ve made an effort for it which can make them think more carefully before spending. It also teaches children the old adage ‘money doesn’t grow on trees’, when they ask for things they can appreciate that work has been put in to earn it.

Read Books For Fun

Children reading books can improve language, develop empathy, enhance concentration, teaches them about a range of topics and can encourage a thirst for knowledge. It’s far more beneficial than playing computer games or watching tv, and so anything that gives them an interest in books and learning is a wonderful thing. Let them see how reading can be for fun and not just something they ‘have’ to do for school. Reading is great for adults too, it provides a fun escape, helps your memory and lots of other great psychological benefits. Read books for your own wellbeing, in doing so you show children that this is a great way to spend your free time. And of course, read with your children too.

Be Social

Haha, say what? Yeah, I know…but listen. There’s nothing wrong with being introverted, I am a very socially awkward introvert so this idea is terrifying. However, there are a lot of benefits that come from being confident and sociable. It makes it easier for children to develop friendships, express themselves and not be held back by insecurity. Take your children to groups and activities where you can both socialize with other children and adults. If they see you treating people respectfully and with manners, it’s a good way to encourage them to do the same. Introverted mamas unite!

Are you ready to take on the world ahead as a more confident single mom? I sure hope so. Go be the best role model you can possibly be. Your kiddos will (hopefully) thank you later in life.  Give this post a like, comment & share!

Much love, peace out.

So, You Want To Be A Mompreneur? Avoid These 3 Mistakes

Become a mompreneuer, avoid these 3 mistakes | neveralonemom.com

Hey Mamas, How’s it going?

Are you currently or are you looking into becoming an awesome mompreneur? Then this post is so for you!

So, You Want To Be A Mompreneur? Avoid These 3 Mistakes

There’s no greater or nobler calling in life than being a parent. But if there’s one thing that parenthood does to a woman, other than giving her a profound sense of love and purpose that she had never previously thought possible, it’s giving her renewed sense of perspective. Motherhood represents a complete and irrevocable change to a woman’s psychology and the myriad of things that used to keep her awake at night simply pale in comparison to the sense of duty, responsibility, and accomplishment that comes with being a Mom. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that many women are reluctant to return to the workplace, especially against a backdrop of prejudice, discrimination, and mistrust toward new mothers.  It’s even more difficult as a single mom, our place is home with our children, otherwise, there will be no parent to actually raise them. So, insert amazing new mompreneur title here!

mompreneur | neveralonemom.com

In lieu of returning to work, many new or single mothers opt instead to develop their own businesses, thus becoming… mompreneurs. The women who choose to do this are trailblazers and should be commended for taking their futures (and those of their families) into their own hands. That said, the path of the momtrepreneur is perilous and full of pitfalls. In order to be a successful mompreneur, it’s vitally important to steer clear of these common mistakes…

Failing to find the balance

Like any self-employed person, a mompreneur walks a fine line in giving both her child and her business the attention they deserve, finding new routines to suit their dual role. Nearly all new mompreneurs dedicate too much time to their nascent businesses. While the first year of any business is a period of unparalleled hard work, but most new entrepreneurs don’t have to balance their commitments to their businesses with safeguarding another little life.

As a result, many new mompreneurs find themselves losing sleep, taking too little time to themselves and inevitably burning out.

Taking too much on themselves

Any business, especially a new business, wages a constant war against escalating overheads. Employees are one of the biggest overheads for a new business, and it can be tempting for new mompreneurs to try to do everything themselves. This is, however, the epitome of false economy. Taking on too much yourself will impede your business’ growth and make the who enterprise lonelier and more stressful than it needs to be.

A strong team will make your business a more enjoyable endeavor while facilitating real and lasting growth. If you’re hard pressed for cash, consider recruiting within the pool of Moms with whom you mix socially. They may appreciate the opportunity, even if you can’t pay them too much at the start. You can collaborate with them using free collaboration software like Slack and Asana and give them pay stubs using a check stub maker. When you’re business grows to new heights, you’ll be glad to have your team behind you.

Failing to outsource

Once again, the understandable desire to drive down overheads can lead to some wrongheaded decisions. While entrepreneurs are dynamic and multi-talented people, it’s important to realize that you can’t do everything yourself and some things are best left to the professionals. Digital marketing, for instance, may seem easy for the social media savvy but while nearly everyone knows how to create a presence and cultivate a following on social media, an outsourced digital marketing consultant will be able to help convert your online following into profitable business interest.

Avoiding these 3 missteps will be huge when creating your own home business. Always remember that you are doing something amazing, brave, and ultimately, what is best for your family. I hope these insights will help you soar high on your mompreneur adventures.

Super Storage Tips For Moms

Super storage tips for moms | neveralonemom.com

Hey mamas!

How’s it going? Are you enjoying 2018 so far? With so many resolutions for the new year, de-cluttering your life is usually one of them. So today I am bringing you super storage tips! Read on for all the best tips to start your de-cluttering journey.

Super Storage Tips For Moms

January is many things. It’s the month of starting diets and detoxes. It’s the time you assess your finances and make some cutbacks. It’s when everything goes back to normal after all the planning and excitement of Christmas. And, it’s the month that mom’s  all over the world attempt to find storage space for all of those gifts that seemed like a good idea at the time. Without upsetting the kids by demanding they say goodbye to any of their old toys that they haven’t touched for years but suddenly can’t bear to be without. The trick is organization. With just a little planning and some brilliant storage tips, you can easily fit in all those new toys, without resorting to a huge clearance.

The Living Room

When we’ve got young kids that need constant supervision, a lot of their toys live in the living room. While this is essential for keeping the kids safe and happy, it can quickly lead to clutter and mess. Which in turn can cause broken toys or even bones, as well as stressful hours spent trying to find things when we need them.

Fortunately, there are some great ways to make the most of your living room storage space. You could try wall mounted shelves, to keep all of your grown-up possessions out of the kid’s way. Then, you could create a kid’s zone, separated from the rest of the room with a large piece of furniture (perhaps the back of your sofa). This area should be a safe space where the kids are free to make a mess. Other options include over door hangers and large, shallow storage boxes that easily slide under your sofa or chairs.

Storage Tips For Moms | neveralonemom.com

Another fantastic option is toy rotation. Yes, their toys need to be played within the living room. But, they don’t play with everything at once. Keep a few of their favorite Christmas gifts out in the family room, and tidy the rest away in toy boxes in their rooms. Then, every few weeks, rotate the toys that you have out. When they are very young, this will be like getting new toys every few weeks as they’ll barely remember them.

The Bedroom

Kids bedrooms can be an absolute nightmare. When they are very young, their room can lose the personal touch as it starts to feel like little more than storage. Then, as they get older, you need to find a way to store toys where they can reach them, without it getting too messy. Check out my recent post all about decor ideas that double as storage for their bedrooms here.

The best way to handle kid-friendly storage is with large storage boxes that they can pull out and open themselves. Encourage them to keep things tidy and organized by having a fun clean-up session at the end of the day.

Outside

It can be tempting to keep all the outdoor toys inside, to keep them safe from both theft and weather. But, install a shed with Armstrong steel buildings bbb, and you won’t need to. Outdoor toys can be large and bulky. A shed is the perfect place to keep them and can be just as safe and secure as your home.

Are you ready to tackle the mess in your life? I know I am! Let’s do this! 😀

A colloboration.

Self Confidence For The Single Mom

self confidence for the single mom | neveralonemom.com

Happy New Year Mamas!

The start of the new year is right around the corner and with that for most brings a lot of looking at your life, resolutions, new goals, and self-confidence issues. So today I am hoping to help boost all of these areas for you! Keep on reading to see my best advice for self-confidence for the single mom!

Reflection & Looking Ahead

Pretty much everyone takes a look back on the last year of their life and a glimpse of hope for the next year on New Years. It’s a time to really think about what you’ve accomplished, or not accomplished and what you can do better going into the new year. As single moms, sometimes it’s hard to not have those negative thoughts about we failed ourselves, our kids and just didn’t do everything we feel like we should have. But you know what? None of that is true!

You are a smart, strong, hard-working mama who absolutely did her best and in no way failed anyone.  Do not look back on this last year with disappointment in yourself. You did all you could, and you rocked it! Do look ahead with hope and excitement, because this year will be even better. You can only go up from here, claim it and believe it! Let’s all move forward ready to take on 2018.

Self Confidence

I have struggled with self-confidence my entire life. It’s never been easy to feel good about myself, feel like I was good enough like I was attractive or even loved.  I am sure as single moms yourselves, you feel me.  The things we go through raising kids on our own and not having a true support system can be damaging to us. Whether you survived an abusive relationship, a toxic family, or are still dealing with mental health issues, loneliness, or any other dark cloud, your self-confidence suffers.

It is time to take back your self-love. It is time to begin to heal from those hurtful and false thoughts and learn how to feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin. I’m not just saying this to you, I’m saying this to me too! Are you ready to love yourself? I know I am!

My Best Advice

Spend time with yourself. Yes, really. Take a little time each day, if you can, and have some quality me time.  Take a walk outside, go to the grocery store alone, watch a movie by yourself. Just relax in your own thoughts, examine them closely and start trying to change them. Find something you enjoy doing or thinking about and run with that. Find the small things in your day and all the little things that make you smile and hold on to that joy. Allow it to leak out and spread to the rest of your thoughts and actions. Find beauty in life, and find it in yourself.

Make time for outward self-love. Give yourself a mani-pedi, do an at-home face mask. Pluck your eyebrows, do a hair mask, take a bubble bath, buy some new makeup or a hot new outfit, etc. Pamper yourself, take care of yourself. Do something that will naturally boost your confidence and help you to not only maybe look a little better but feel so much better! These things may seem silly but they are actually important. Boost those endorphins any way you can, flaunt your hot self and look and feel fabulous. Because you are!

new me | neveralonemom.com

Set new goals. This may seem like new years no-brainer, but the trick with this is to set realist goals for yourself.  That way when you didn’t go on that vacation to Bora Bora you won’t feel like you failed your goals. Set goals like, eat more greens, read more books, try a new workout, find a new game to play with the kids etc.  Be simple and realistic with your goals, so that way you can crush them and not be left with disappointment in a  years time.  Don’t fool yourself, but also don’t sell yourself short either. You know what realistic goals for yourself are, set yourself up for greatness, not failure. Make this year about what you can do, not what you wish you could do.

I hope I’ve given you some tips on making 2018 your best year yet and given you a shimmering new self-confidence!

May your year be blessed.

Wonderful Winter Crafts For The Coziest Time Of Year

wonderful winter crafts | neveralonemom.com

Happy Winter Mamas!

Wintertime tends to be very focused on Christmas, but the festive period has come and gone right before winter has really kicked in. January and February are by far the coldest and most wintery months, and so if you like to embrace the season there’s still lots you can do when Christmas is done that doesn’t involve sitting around waiting until spring! People can see the start of the year as quite a drab and dull but really it’s a great opportunity to get cozy, snuggle up and enjoy any snow that falls. On a wet or cold weekend, here are some crafts that you can do with or without your little ones to celebrate winter. Here are some wonderful winter crafts!

Candle Holders

There are a few different ways you could go about creating candle holders that will look wonderful with your winter decor. The first would be to find a suitably sized log, and saw off the bottom so it lays flat. Then drill holes into it even distances apart to put candles into. Finish it off with sprigs of holly or glue on pine cones, you can buy cordless glue guns from just about any hobby shop and they are useful for any crafter to have in their stash. Finish with some other wintery foliage for a pretty centerpiece to any table.

Winter Wreath

Wreaths don’t just have to be for Christmas, they make a stunning addition to the front door or even indoors any time of the year. Once your Christmas wreath has died off, why not get to work on a general winter one? It could be made of twigs, foliage, pine cones and other bits and pieces you can find in the garden or in the woods. It could be made out of wood, twine, flowers, anything that can withstand the winter weather. If you’re making a wreath for indoors you could use fabric or paper too as there’s no worry of it getting wet. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest! 😉

Pot Pourri

A bowl of homemade potpourri will make your home smell nice, and there are lots of lovely Christmassy bits and pieces you can include in it. Acorns, pine cones, dried flowers and twigs can be mix with things like cinnamon sticks, cloves, whole nuts with dried berries and orange slices. Add a few drops of your favorite wintery essential oil (cinnamon, ginger and warming vanilla work well) and display in a big bowl. A beautiful and scent-tastic bit of additional wintry splendor.

Snowflake Cookies

Home baked treats with a steaming mug of hot chocolate, – could anything be nicer on a cold winter’s day? Snowflake cookies look perfect for the winter and are easy to make- a simple shortbread recipe, a snowflake cutter, and some icing is all you need. It’s something kids can get involved in, and they make a fantastic treat if you have guests coming round or just for yourself! Not too Christmassy looking once the festivities are over, but still wonderfully wintery. If you wanted to go all out you could even add some edible glitter spray to the icing!

Are you excited to go and create some wonderful things this winter? I know I am! Enjoy these craft ideas and may your winter season be warm with love! Be sure to comment & share!

What Could Go Wrong This Christmas?

What could go wrong this Christmas? | neveralonemom.com

Happy Christmas mamas!

That sounded very British, didn’t it?

Christmas | neveralonemom.com
Source: https://www.pexels.com/photo/two-champagne-glasses-near-baubles-712324/

It’s getting closer and closer to the holidays. The decorations are up; presents are exchanged. There is good cheer all around you. People are making the most of the holiday season and basking in the occasion; people are having fun. So it begs the question, what could go wrong this Christmas? As single moms, this time of year can be especially challenging and I bet these scenarios sound at least somewhat familiar…

As with every big celebration throughout the year, there is always the danger of things going awry. These problems can range from the small to the calamitous, and it’s up to you to know how to deal with them should any of them arise. And, knowing the Universe, they probably will. #FAIL

THE TRAGEDY OF THE TURKEY

A Christmas dinner of turkey and all the trimmings is a staple of any household’s yearly celebration. But, for all of the preparation you might painstakingly pour over in the upcoming weeks, there is no accounting for a potential disaster.

The turkey could end up burned; the oven could break, your uncle’s new wife could reveal that she is, actually, vegan and is wondering why you haven’t made accommodations for her needs. To avoid any of these problems, it’s a good idea to have a backup plan, should things turn out the opposite of intended. This doesn’t mean buying two of everything; there are recipes all over the internet to give you something to fall back on, should disaster strike.

COPING WITH CRIME

It’s a shame that this has to be mentioned, but with holiday cheer also comes holiday tears. It would be nice for everyone to go through Christmas without having to deal with damage from outside influence but that is not always the case. It would be devastating to lose the gifts that I know as a single mom you did not come easily by.

Crime at Christmas can be considered anything from drunk driving to personal damage. The spirit of the season seems to stop people thinking entirely sensibly. It can be devastating for families all over the world to find themselves the victims of criminal problems. Powers McCartan offers a nice little bit of advice on dealing with all types of crime that you might fall victim to, giving you a little peace of mind should anything go wrong.

ARGUMENTS WITH AUNTY ANNIE

Not just Aunty Annie, obviously. For some, the holiday season means nothing but disagreements, shouting matches, and an all around sour mood. But it doesn’t need to be that way. Being single moms, it’s, unfortunately, the norm to receive some kind of criticism from family during the holiday season, but be strong and hold your own!

As much as some may try, the family still manages to get under each other’s skin over Christmas. It can be challenging to spend a whole day with a host of people that you a) don’t really know, and b) have next to nothing in common with or c) simply don’t agree with or understand your single mom lifestyle.  Disagreements are bound to arise at some point. To avoid this, there are ways to avoid confrontation, but should this fail; you can turn these negatives into positives.

The best way to approach Christmas is to assume the worst. If you are prepared for everything that can and will go wrong, you can at least have an idea of ways to solve it. Just try not to let the fear of disaster reign over all your Christmas cheer. I hope I have helped you to bravely face this wonderful time of year. I know how difficult it can be for us living the single mom life and I pray you all feel nothing but pure joy this Christmas.

Be Merry & Bright
