4 Scary Things That Happen If You Don’t Drink Enough Water

Scary things that can happen if you're not drinking enough water. | neveralonemom.com

Hey hey mamas,

So today I am bringing you a little bit of health advice because I know as a busy single mom it can be hard to always take care of yourself.  So as motivation to keep yourself hydrated, no matter how busy you get here are some reminders of how important it is to drink enough water.

4 Scary Things That Happen When You Don’t Drink Enough Water

As diligent Moms, we want out kids to grow up healthy, happy and well prepared for the challenges the world will bring them. If only we applied that dictum to our own lives a little more. While the life of any parent, especially a single parent is a relentless whirlwind of everyday tasks, chores, and checks, that doesn’t mean that we don’t owe it to ourselves and our children to make sure that we’re in tip-top shape. And if we look and feel great, we’ll just take that as a happy side effect.

While we all know the dangers of tobacco consumption, a sedentary lifestyle (ha, chance would be a fine thing!) a poor diet and excessive alcohol for our bodies and minds, far too few of us give the simple act of staying hydrated the respect and attention it deserves. Even the best Moms struggle when they’re not adequately hydrated, and here we’ll look at the frankly scary side effects when you don’t get enough water.

But I HATE drinking water?

A lot of people shy away from drinking water because they don’t like the taste or because other options like coffee and soda give them a better taste and a little extra zip. If you don’t like the taste it may be that you need a water filter or to switch to something flavored like this refreshing lime flavored water. Tea and coffee are okay, too in moderation but beware of sodas. They’re either loaded with empty calories or full of dangerous artificial sweeteners. There’s no substitute for good old-fashioned, crystal clear water.

Besides, here’s what happens if you don’t get enough…

You’ll look really old, really fast!

We all love that feeling when we meet a fellow parent and they say “You don’t look old enough to have a kid his/her age!”. Failing to get enough water will cause your skin to age at an accelerated rate as your skin is unable to flush out toxins as efficiently or keep itself full and plump. You’ll also be more vulnerable to conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

You’ll struggle to lose weight

Moms are an active bunch but if you’re trying to get in shape, not drinking enough water could be impeding your goals. Staying well hydrated facilitates your body’s natural fat burning and your ability to metabolize fat is nowhere near as effective when you’re running dry (literally).

You’ll feel bloated and lethargic

Given the busy lifestyle of most hectic moms, the last thing you can afford to be is low on energy. But that doesn’t mean that you should rely on caffeine or dangerous pep pills. Staying hydrated will keep you feeling fresh and alert rather than the bloated and lethargic feeling we get when dehydrated.

You’ll struggle to concentrate

Headache? Trouble concentrating? Feeling dizzy and fatigued? Your brain is 80% water and if you don’t stay hydrated there’s no way you can expect it to work properly. Don’t wait until you get thirsty to take a sip of water as by the time your brain registers thirst, you’re already dehydrated, and even mild dehydration can reduce your concentration by around 15%.

We all want our kids to stay hydrated, and how can we do that if we’re not prepared to be great role models for them?

So let’s get our drink on and feel better when trying to keep up with our crazy mom lives!

How To Keep Your Child’s Teeth As Healthy As They Can Be

How to keep your child's teeth as healthy as they can be! | neveralonemom.com

Hiya mamas, what’s skakin’ bacon?

Does your kid love to brush his or her teeth? Do they jump up and down squealing with excitement at the mention of flossing? No? I didn’t think so. Read on for the best ways to keep your child’s teeth healthy, your kid’s enthusiasm not guaranteed.

How To Keep Your Child’s Teeth As Healthy As They Can Be

Our teeth are important, there is no denying that. And, because our teeth are so important they need to be tended to and kept as healthy as they can be at all times. And, because your child is not yet in a position to either have the facilities to keep his or her teeth healthy or even have the desire to do so, the job of doing so falls to you.  For advice on how to keep your child’s teeth as healthy as can be,  let’s dive into some expert tips.

First of all, know when to start

You may think that you should only begin tending to your child’s teeth when their first tooth appears, but if you think this then you are wrong. No, you should start tending to your child’s teeth way before their first tooth appears in their mouth because, even as soon as they are born, your child will have 20 primary teeth, some of which are even fully developed, in their jaw.

To tend to these teeth that you cannot see, even before your baby begins teething, try running a damp (but very, very clean) washcloth over and around their gums — doing so will help to clear any bacteria that may prove to be harmful as teething occurs and teeth appear. And, once your child does get teeth make sure to begin brushing them with a specially designed infant toothbrush as delicately and as soon as possible, using clean water and a bit of non- fluoride toothpaste that measures no bigger than a grain of rice when you do so.

Second of all, know when to see a dentist

As important as it is to tend to your child’s teeth yourself, you will have to hand over the reins of doing so to a pediatric dentist at some point, and the time for doing so should come around the time of your child’s first birthday. You should do this because, first and foremost, it will provide you with all the help and information you need in regards to proper brushing and flossing techniques before it is too late and you become stuck in incorrect ways. Secondly, by making visits to the dentist as early in your child’s life as you can (once they have got teeth, that is) you will make it far more likely that any problems that may have arisen in your child’s mouth that you are not professionally trained to spot will be able to be diagnosed. Thirdly, making your child aware of the dentist and what happens when they are in the dentist’s chair as early in their life as possible will make them far more comfortable in regards to it as they grow, and this can be vital in instilling the importance of visits to the dentist in them as they mature.  I made the mistake of waiting too long to take my son to the dentist, I had not been myself in more years than I’d like to say and was just beginning to finally go get some much-needed work done so I decided to wait until all of my visits had been paid before I took him in which was too long of a wait and every month he now has to have visits, much for everyone’s dismay. So get your kid in now!

Your child’s teeth are important, and it is down to you to tend to them. So, get tending to them, get them down to a dentist and get their teeth looking and feeling as healthy as they can be! Good luck!

Traditional VS. Natural Kids Vitamins

vitamins for kids | neveralonemom.com

Hey mamas!

So I think it’s safe to say that we all know the struggle of keeping our little ones healthy, getting them to eat their veggies and stay out of the cookie jar. Vitamins are perfect for getting that little extra bit of much-needed nutrition into their growing bodies, but sometimes…ok, most of the time it’s so hard to get our kids to want to take them!  When facing this struggle, it’s also important to know exactly what are in these vitamins we are trying to force into our kid’s mouths, so today I want to give you mamas the rundown on traditional vs. natural vitamins for your kids.

So, my son is the pickiest eater on the planet. No, really. He literally won’t eat anything unless it’s coated in bright colored sugar, so the nutrition struggle is real guys. I have tried pretty much every brand of natural vitamins out there hoping to find one my son will actually like the taste of and eat. Well, the hunt is over. After much research and trial and error, we have success! I have never tried the traditional vitamin brands you find at any drugstore or places like WalMart.  The ingredients lists are shocking! If you actually knew, like really knew what was in them, there’s no way you would let your kids have them.  So it’s time to realize that not everything claiming to be safe and healthy actually is safe and healthy. Here is a list of just some of the bad ingredients found in most traditional vitamin brands.

  • Fructose Syrup
  • Wax
  • Artificial Coloring (Dye)
  • Soy
  • Artificial Flavoring
  • GMOs

With that in mind, we as moms should steer clear of these cheap vitamin brands containing harmful ingredients and look for something more natural and that we can feel better about giving our kids on a regular basis.  I have tried many natural and organic vitamin brands but my son just hasn’t liked the taste of any of them so far, so when I discovered VitaFive I was curious to see if my son would like them or spit them right back out. Low and behold at quite a surprise, he loved them! (Angels Singing)

So I am excited to share this brand with the rest of you moms so hopefully your little ones and you, (they have adult gummies too!) can try out the delicious vitamins from Vitafive too! What’s so great about them, is that you choose your own customs gummies, need better sleep? More vitamin D, more calcium? Just choose what you need and every 4 weeks your custom gummies in their own little daily packs will be sent to you! Awesome right? For kids, they have a healthy bones pack, immune pack, probiotics pack and essentials pack! All colorful and delicious using all natural ingredients! Everything from VitaFive is Gluten-Free, Allergen-Free, and Vegan!
