Help! My Kid Has An Undiagnosable Health Issue

Hey mamas!

There is something I wanted to bright up on the blog today in regards to health issues in our kids.  It’s not always fun to talk about and can be a bit controversial for some. But if you have ever said  “Help! My kid has an undiagnosable health issue!” Then this post is for you. Continue on for some helpful tips.

Help! My kid has an undiagnosable health issue

Did you know that there are lots of health issues that doctors simply cannot diagnose? Fibromyalgia is a brilliant example of this. While this is technically a diagnosis, it’s also a cop-out. You see fibromyalgia is a diagnosis given to anyone experiencing unexplained chronic pain anywhere in the body. The young and the old can develop this condition and doctors have no idea what causes it or even how to treat it. So, for all intensive purposes, if you hear this word from a doctor, they haven’t diagnosed you with anything at all. It’s their way of saying: “we don’t know.”

Unfortunately, a non-diagnosis like this can be incredibly frustrating for parents, particularly if it’s their kid who has the health issue. It could be causing them discomfort or the symptoms might seem to suggest something sinister. Here’s what to do if you find yourself in this situation.

Don’t Panic!

Nine times out of ten an undiagnosed health issue is going to be nothing. We can look at the example of blackouts. Your child might be having an issue with every so often almost losing consciousness. When speaking about it with you, they might have described the world going dark and their muscles feeling weak. Immediately, you’re jumping to horrific conclusions from a brain tumor to a serious mental condition. However, this symptom can also be caused by a growth spurt. If kids are growing at a phenomenal rate, it can cause an issue like this, so there’s no need to always jump to the worst conclusion. Simply bring it up with your Pediatrician.

It Could Be An Allergy

Doctors can’t always diagnose an issue as an allergy, and they certainly won’t be able to tell you what’s the cause of the reaction. That’s why you need to speak with allergy specialists. An allergy can present itself in very weird and wonderful ways from a rash to hair loss to a fever. It’s enough to scare any parent half to death but once you figure out what your kid is allergic to you’ve already won half the battle. Let’s just hope it’s not the beloved family pup.

It Will Probably Go Away By Itself

Most medical symptoms do disappear without any help from a doctor or even medicine within about two weeks. That’s why if symptoms aren’t changing or getting worse you should wait about two weeks before you go and consult a doctor. The chances are that it’s nothing and there are lots of examples of things on the body that popup for basically no reason at all like petai. These are little red dots about the size of pinpricks that can pop up for a variety of reasons and are hardly ever sinister. For instance, a few months back my son had little warts popping up all over his body and I could not figure them out, but it turned out to only be harmless molluscum warts which are very common and no big deal. They go away on their own and don’t stick around for long. Whew! I was really beginning to worry about them. So in cases like this, it’s best to not freak out right away.

As you can see then, an undiagnosed health issue even for your child doesn’t need to send your blood pressure skyrocketing. Stay calm and remember that most medical issues have simple explanations even if they can’t be diagnosed straight away. If in doubt make sure you speak to a second doctor. It’s always a good idea to get a second opinion because while one doctor might be stumped another might know exactly what’s causing the issue.

Stay calm and mom on!

Money Habits To Make Your 2018 Sparkle

Hey, there sexy mamas!

Hope the New Year is treating you well so far! To help usher us into a what will hopefully be a fantastic year, I wanted to bring you some tips on money habits to make your 2018 sparkle! Read on for some kick-booty advice on slaying your finances this year!

Money Habits To Make Your 2018 Sparkle

Could your year have gone better financially? If 2017 was characterized by poor money decisions, having to carefully budget and worry about unexpected expenses, then there are ways to look forward to a much brighter future in 2018. It starts with a few simple steps, such as consolidating any debt and trimming your outgoings. This should leave you with more of a cushion to cover anything you didn’t budget for. Here’s how…

make your 2018 sparkle |

Check Your Utilities

It doesn’t pay to be loyal when it comes to your gas, electricity and other bills such as broadband. Despite the huge array of comparison sites out there, many of us still aren’t taking ten minutes to make sure we’re getting the best deal. Your circumstances will change over time, so the tariff that is best for you will also change. You could save up to $300 a year just for a quick check! The onus is firmly on providers to make it easy to switch so there shouldn’t be much hassle for you as a customer. Save those dollars where you can!

Pay Down Your Debt

Wouldn’t it be amazing to wake up one day completely debt free? While this is a completely achievable reality, you have to be smart about your borrowing. Many people just let their repayments tick along. What you actually need to be doing to make inroads in the amount you owe is proactively managing the situation. Consider finding a debt consolidation loan through a service like Evolution Money. That way you can reduce multiple payments into one monthly amount. If you have credit cards, try transferring the balance onto a card with an interest free period to then pay it off in the timeframe.

Seek Out Cashback

If you’re planning any big purchases this year, then make sure you go through a cashback website like Ebates. I personally use and love this site, it’s only an extra click when you’re shopping online and boom! Automatic cash back! You’ll get a percentage of what you pay back – and when it’s a larger purchase, like white goods, this is well worth doing. You can even earn cash back for purchases made via your mobile phone using their app.

Money habits to make your 2018 sparkle |

Set a No Spend Zone

You may be in the habit of small, daily purchases. They don’t cost much individually, but add them up over the course of a year and they can make a significant dent in your budget. Often these habits don’t really bring us happiness. So one trick to to set a ‘no spend week’ or even just a ‘day’ in the month where you don’t spend any money at all. Prep your lunch in advance if you work out of the home and bring a coffee your own coffee travel mug. Leave your debit card and any cash in a drawer. You may be surprised how effective this is at breaking a pattern of mindless spending.

Waste Less Food

Food waste is a huge environmental problem, and it’s also an issue for our wallets with the cost of the weekly shop rising all the time. But we can get better at correctly estimating portion sizes and find creative recipes for leftovers. Finding out information on how to correctly store food and using our freezer more can also help. Love Food Hate Waste is a great place to start.

Self Confidence For The Single Mom

self confidence for the single mom |

Happy New Year Mamas!

The start of the new year is right around the corner and with that for most brings a lot of looking at your life, resolutions, new goals, and self-confidence issues. So today I am hoping to help boost all of these areas for you! Keep on reading to see my best advice for self-confidence for the single mom!

Reflection & Looking Ahead

Pretty much everyone takes a look back on the last year of their life and a glimpse of hope for the next year on New Years. It’s a time to really think about what you’ve accomplished, or not accomplished and what you can do better going into the new year. As single moms, sometimes it’s hard to not have those negative thoughts about we failed ourselves, our kids and just didn’t do everything we feel like we should have. But you know what? None of that is true!

You are a smart, strong, hard-working mama who absolutely did her best and in no way failed anyone.  Do not look back on this last year with disappointment in yourself. You did all you could, and you rocked it! Do look ahead with hope and excitement, because this year will be even better. You can only go up from here, claim it and believe it! Let’s all move forward ready to take on 2018.

Self Confidence

I have struggled with self-confidence my entire life. It’s never been easy to feel good about myself, feel like I was good enough like I was attractive or even loved.  I am sure as single moms yourselves, you feel me.  The things we go through raising kids on our own and not having a true support system can be damaging to us. Whether you survived an abusive relationship, a toxic family, or are still dealing with mental health issues, loneliness, or any other dark cloud, your self-confidence suffers.

It is time to take back your self-love. It is time to begin to heal from those hurtful and false thoughts and learn how to feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin. I’m not just saying this to you, I’m saying this to me too! Are you ready to love yourself? I know I am!

self confidence |

My Best Advice

Spend time with yourself. Yes, really. Take a little time each day, if you can, and have some quality me time.  Take a walk outside, go to the grocery store alone, watch a movie by yourself. Just relax in your own thoughts, examine them closely and start trying to change them. Find something you enjoy doing or thinking about and run with that. Find the small things in your day and all the little things that make you smile and hold on to that joy. Allow it to leak out and spread to the rest of your thoughts and actions. Find beauty in life, and find it in yourself.

Make time for outward self-love. Give yourself a mani-pedi, do an at-home face mask. Pluck your eyebrows, do a hair mask, take a bubble bath, buy some new makeup or a hot new outfit, etc. Pamper yourself, take care of yourself. Do something that will naturally boost your confidence and help you to not only maybe look a little better but feel so much better! These things may seem silly but they are actually important. Boost those endorphins any way you can, flaunt your hot self and look and feel fabulous. Because you are!

new me |

Set new goals. This may seem like new years no-brainer, but the trick with this is to set realist goals for yourself.  That way when you didn’t go on that vacation to Bora Bora you won’t feel like you failed your goals. Set goals like, eat more greens, read more books, try a new workout, find a new game to play with the kids etc.  Be simple and realistic with your goals, so that way you can crush them and not be left with disappointment in a  years time.  Don’t fool yourself, but also don’t sell yourself short either. You know what realistic goals for yourself are, set yourself up for greatness, not failure. Make this year about what you can do, not what you wish you could do.

I hope I’ve given you some tips on making 2018 your best year yet and given you a shimmering new self-confidence!

May your year be blessed.

Wonderful Winter Crafts For The Coziest Time Of Year

wonderful winter crafts |

Happy Winter Mamas!

Wintertime tends to be very focused on Christmas, but the festive period has come and gone right before winter has really kicked in. January and February are by far the coldest and most wintery months, and so if you like to embrace the season there’s still lots you can do when Christmas is done that doesn’t involve sitting around waiting until spring! People can see the start of the year as quite a drab and dull but really it’s a great opportunity to get cozy, snuggle up and enjoy any snow that falls. On a wet or cold weekend, here are some crafts that you can do with or without your little ones to celebrate winter. Here are some wonderful winter crafts!

Candle Holders

There are a few different ways you could go about creating candle holders that will look wonderful with your winter decor. The first would be to find a suitably sized log, and saw off the bottom so it lays flat. Then drill holes into it even distances apart to put candles into. Finish it off with sprigs of holly or glue on pine cones, you can buy cordless glue guns from just about any hobby shop and they are useful for any crafter to have in their stash. Finish with some other wintery foliage for a pretty centerpiece to any table.

Winter Wreath

Wreaths don’t just have to be for Christmas, they make a stunning addition to the front door or even indoors any time of the year. Once your Christmas wreath has died off, why not get to work on a general winter one? It could be made of twigs, foliage, pine cones and other bits and pieces you can find in the garden or in the woods. It could be made out of wood, twine, flowers, anything that can withstand the winter weather. If you’re making a wreath for indoors you could use fabric or paper too as there’s no worry of it getting wet. There are tons of ideas on Pinterest! 😉

Pot Pourri

A bowl of homemade potpourri will make your home smell nice, and there are lots of lovely Christmassy bits and pieces you can include in it. Acorns, pine cones, dried flowers and twigs can be mix with things like cinnamon sticks, cloves, whole nuts with dried berries and orange slices. Add a few drops of your favorite wintery essential oil (cinnamon, ginger and warming vanilla work well) and display in a big bowl. A beautiful and scent-tastic bit of additional wintry splendor.

Snowflake Cookies

Home baked treats with a steaming mug of hot chocolate, – could anything be nicer on a cold winter’s day? Snowflake cookies look perfect for the winter and are easy to make- a simple shortbread recipe, a snowflake cutter, and some icing is all you need. It’s something kids can get involved in, and they make a fantastic treat if you have guests coming round or just for yourself! Not too Christmassy looking once the festivities are over, but still wonderfully wintery. If you wanted to go all out you could even add some edible glitter spray to the icing!

Are you excited to go and create some wonderful things this winter? I know I am! Enjoy these craft ideas and may your winter season be warm with love! Be sure to comment & share!

Why Do I Feel So Empty? – Signs Of Depression & Mental Illness

Depression |

Hey there mamas,

So today on the blog I am sharing a fantastic article written by my friends at about the signs and symptoms of depression. Mental health is a topic that I think is very important and as a mom who struggles with depression and other mental health issues, I feel the need to share some info with you all as it seriously impacts us as moms and women.  I have written about mental health before since it’s such an important topic to me, so  I was very thankful for this article to share. Continue on to read how to better understand how you may be feeling. – Jess XO

Why Do I Feel So Empty?

Feeling empty is one of the loneliest feelings there is and it is so difficult to explain to people too. How do you tell someone what feeling empty is like? It is sort of like knowing there is something missing but not knowing what it is. It is a helpless and sad feeling that changes your whole outlook on life. If you cannot figure out what it is that is making you feel that way, that feeling may not go away. You may think it is because you are broke or because you had a fight with your best friend. However, these external things do not usually last. You may be sad for a while due to external issues like this but it does not continue day after day. That is about your inner perspective and what your expectations are. Figuring out what is causing this feeling is not easy.

What Does Feeling Empty Feel Like?

You may be feeling tired and rundown or you may feel numbness. These feelings are usually a sign that there is something going on with your mental health. You may be stressed out or anxious about something or you may be depressed. Figuring out why you are feeling this way is important so you can get back to your normal life. Has anything happened to you recently that is affecting your mental health like losing your job or the loss of a family member? These things can trigger an episode of emptiness that may not go away until you address it. Maybe you are suffering from a physical illness that you cannot get rid of or you may be having trouble sleeping. These feelings you are having can affect your life, your work, and your relationships as well.

Getting Some Help

It may be time to talk to someone about these feelings so you can get your life back on track. This does not mean that you need to run out and find a psychiatrist or psychologist. Your first step should be talking to your regular doctor. Get a physical checkup and tell the doctor how you are feeling. He may find something simple that is wrong such as a hormone imbalance or vitamin deficiency. If that is the case, a prescription may be able to fix your emptiness feeling. If not, he may suggest you talk to a therapist. Psychologists are also an option, and if you want to learn about therapists v.s psychologists you can look into that.

Therapy Online

If you do not want to make an appointment and see a therapist, there are other options that can make it easier. Online mental health resources such as can help you find someone to talk to and you do not even need to leave the house or make an appointment. In fact, you can try a chat room at first to see how you like that. A chat room is a good place to talk to others anonymously about your feelings and get advice from others who have similar issues. If that is not for you, there are over 2,000 licensed professionals available to talk to you online anytime on your smartphone or other electronic devices. Give it a try and you could be feeling better today!

Alternative Halloween Activities

Alternative Halloween activities |

Hey there mamas!

So it’s October, and for most families, that means getting excited about Halloween. But not all families celebrate Halloween or at least are not as into it as others.  In light of this, I will be sharing with you some awesome alternative Halloween activities that will leave you and your kinds just as happy and sugar induced as any ‘traditional” Halloween activity.

This post may contain an affiliate link. *

My family and I have never really celebrated Halloween.  It’s something we feel as Christians is not appropriate.  Halloween has become way too commercialized and way too scary in very real ways.  People don’t seem to realize that dressing up as a gruesome monster or a devil, is not cute or innocent.  I have never been comfortable with the idea of Halloween, there’s just something wrong about the whole thing and I have never understood why people are so into it and act like it’s such a fun thing. I do not see the appeal of putting up ugly, scary looking decorations, having blood on things, chopped up body parts, and ghosts etc. These things are all too real in our world and the influences are just too much.  But since it is such a huge holiday and we can’t keep our little ones from being exposed to the ideas of it, finding other ways to celebrate the season and have some fun with snacks and costumes or other exciting things is a great way to go. Here is my list of the best alternative activities to do instead of a traditional Halloween.

  • Harvest Party. – This is my personal favorite, as you can invite your friends and family, have some good food, delicious desserts and decorate with pretty fall flowers and enjoy the crisp weather together. You can always do costumes too if you want! Make them more fun, and less spooky and gruesome.  When I was growing up, our community had a Hoe Down at a friends family ranch, we had warm apple cider, a bonfire, and great food and fellowship. It was a great way to spend an October evening. Some of the little kids would come in costume, usually Bible characters or simple things like a cowgirl, or a fireman. We had music and sometimes games like bobbing for apples, or pumpkin bowling.  You can get super creative and have lots of fun with something like a Harvest party. If you’re not up to hosting, take a look in your community and see if there is one you can attend!
  • Pumpkin Carving Contest –  This is a fun idea if your kids love carving pumpkins! Last year was our first year ever carving a pumpkin and it didn’t turn out very well, but hey, we tried! Turn it into an event by inviting your favorite people, having some coffee, cider, and pie having everyone carve their own pumpkins and holding a contest! It’s sure to be a blast!
  • Corn Maze & Hay Rides – One of the best things about fall are the simple things that bring joy to both us moms and kids. Going on a nice hayride or getting lost in a corn maze are classic fall activities that you can enjoy anytime in October or November. Places like pumpkin patches offer such adventures or you could really go all out and create ones yourself in your own backyard! That’s bound to impress your peeps!
  • Church Events – most churches usually offer some type of alternative Halloween event for local families.  Whether it be Trunk or Treats, or a harvest dinner, there is usually something fun to go do at your local church. Check it out and see what they will be up to this year!
  • DIY Escape Room – Have you ever heard of or been to an escape room? Do you or your kids enjoy thrills, puzzles and being tested on the clock? Then this might be the perfect activity for you! It may take some time and materials to put together, but with a little hard work and creativity you will end up with a really fun original way to get scared on Halloween that doesn’t involve anything creepy or dead! My friends and I are actually putting one together for the youth group! So exciting! If you don’t know what you need or know where to begin when tackling a project like this, Pinterest becomes your new bff! There are kits you can buy and put together, or you can start from scratch with a few sheets, maybe a wood board or two, props, lights and your own imagination.
  • Just For The Kids – If you’re a tired mama and not really feeling like getting too involved then just keeping things simply might be best. Letting your kids have a small sleepover where you let them eat lots of sugar, letting their imaginations go wild by having them build their own candy pizza, watch a fun movie and do fall-related arts and crafts! Take a walk outside and collect pinecones, leaves, twigs and whatever else they fancy and just let them have fun.  Make a wreath for the front door or let them come up with some ideas. Just have a simple fun night at home with some friends having some good old-fashioned fall fun.

If you are on the lookout for costumes because your little ones just can’t do this time of year without them, then you have got to check out this site! Click here

Inspired yet? I hope so! Now go have yourself a fun and fabulous fall!
