4 Scary Things That Happen If You Don’t Drink Enough Water

Scary things that can happen if you're not drinking enough water. |

Hey hey mamas,

So today I am bringing you a little bit of health advice because I know as a busy single mom it can be hard to always take care of yourself.  So as motivation to keep yourself hydrated, no matter how busy you get here are some reminders of how important it is to drink enough water.

4 Scary Things That Happen When You Don’t Drink Enough Water

As diligent Moms, we want out kids to grow up healthy, happy and well prepared for the challenges the world will bring them. If only we applied that dictum to our own lives a little more. While the life of any parent, especially a single parent is a relentless whirlwind of everyday tasks, chores, and checks, that doesn’t mean that we don’t owe it to ourselves and our children to make sure that we’re in tip-top shape. And if we look and feel great, we’ll just take that as a happy side effect.

While we all know the dangers of tobacco consumption, a sedentary lifestyle (ha, chance would be a fine thing!) a poor diet and excessive alcohol for our bodies and minds, far too few of us give the simple act of staying hydrated the respect and attention it deserves. Even the best Moms struggle when they’re not adequately hydrated, and here we’ll look at the frankly scary side effects when you don’t get enough water.

But I HATE drinking water?

A lot of people shy away from drinking water because they don’t like the taste or because other options like coffee and soda give them a better taste and a little extra zip. If you don’t like the taste it may be that you need a water filter or to switch to something flavored like this refreshing lime flavored water. Tea and coffee are okay, too in moderation but beware of sodas. They’re either loaded with empty calories or full of dangerous artificial sweeteners. There’s no substitute for good old-fashioned, crystal clear water.

Besides, here’s what happens if you don’t get enough…

You’ll look really old, really fast!

old woman |

We all love that feeling when we meet a fellow parent and they say “You don’t look old enough to have a kid his/her age!”. Failing to get enough water will cause your skin to age at an accelerated rate as your skin is unable to flush out toxins as efficiently or keep itself full and plump. You’ll also be more vulnerable to conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

You’ll struggle to lose weight

Moms are an active bunch but if you’re trying to get in shape, not drinking enough water could be impeding your goals. Staying well hydrated facilitates your body’s natural fat burning and your ability to metabolize fat is nowhere near as effective when you’re running dry (literally).

You’ll feel bloated and lethargic

Given the busy lifestyle of most hectic moms, the last thing you can afford to be is low on energy. But that doesn’t mean that you should rely on caffeine or dangerous pep pills. Staying hydrated will keep you feeling fresh and alert rather than the bloated and lethargic feeling we get when dehydrated.

You’ll struggle to concentrate

Headache? Trouble concentrating? Feeling dizzy and fatigued? Your brain is 80% water and if you don’t stay hydrated there’s no way you can expect it to work properly. Don’t wait until you get thirsty to take a sip of water as by the time your brain registers thirst, you’re already dehydrated, and even mild dehydration can reduce your concentration by around 15%.

We all want our kids to stay hydrated, and how can we do that if we’re not prepared to be great role models for them?

So let’s get our drink on and feel better when trying to keep up with our crazy mom lives!

Share this post to pass on the reminder to stay hydrated and make sure you are subscribed to my bomb mailing list! (Yes, I said bomb. Cause it’s the bomb diggity 😉 )

How To Find The Perfect Present For Your Loved One

How to find the perfect present! |

Howdy mamas! ( I said that in my best cowgirl voice)

So today I have a post for you about finding the perfect present for your loved one. Why is this something I wanted to share? Well, as busy and broke single moms, I know that gift shopping isn’t always fun. Not knowing what to get, how to afford it or even how to make time to go get it. So here is my guide to hopefully make this little part of life much easier!

How To Find The Perfect Present For Your Loved One

As a busy mother, buying presents for people can be stressful. You’ve already got so much on your plate, and it’s hard to keep up with the endless stream of birthdays on top of Christmas, Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, and other gift-giving events that arise seemingly out of the blue. Mother’s Day is a relaxing one for you, at least, but you still have to do some planning for it so that you remember to get your own mother (or ex-mother-in-law) a present. And as soon as one event passes, you already have to think about buying a gift for someone for the next birthday coming up. It’s time to take a deep breath and relax. Gift-giving can be very stressful because you want to get your loved ones something special and memorable, but you don’t always feel as if you have the time to do so.

Blue gift boxes |

Essentially, the problem is that we all overthink gift-giving. We get flustered when we don’t need to. It’s not about buying some extravagant and lavish present that will blow your loved one away; it’s about buying something that shows you know and care about the person. Think about all the gifts that you’ve received over the years. Did you prefer expensive luxury gifts or simple but meaningful presents? You most likely preferred the latter, even though we all love the occasional luxury. The point is that we remember presents which seem the most thoughtful. For example, you don’t have to spend hours searching shops for the “best new toy” for your kid; just trust your gut and choose something unique to the individual in question. That might be the newest toy on the market, of course, but the point is that it doesn’t have to be. If you’re struggling a little bit then here’s some advice on buying the perfect present for a loved one.

The meaningful present.

A meaningful present is one of the best kinds of present you can buy for a loved one. For most people, a gift with some meaning attached to it is something that they’re going to remember forever. You might want to buy a car for your teenager when they get their license, for example. It doesn’t always have to be an expensive gesture, however. You might even want to check out a company such as MilitaryCoinsUSA if your loved one served in the armed forces because an army coin could be the perfect way to commemorate what they’ve done for the country. And that’s the key to giving your loved one a meaningful present, after all; it should be tied to their personality or life in some way. It could be something that’s meaningful to that individual or something that’s meaningful to the relationship between the two of you. The point is simply that the sentimentality of the present is the present. It’s not about buying some big or lavish gift; it’s a gesture of how much this person means to you.

The personalized present.

Continuing from the previous point, you might want to get a personalized present for your loved one. It doesn’t necessarily need to be an emotional or sentimental gift, but it should be unique to the giftee. A one-of-a-kind gift is special because it tells the person that you put time and thought into creating their present. You might give them a handmade card, for example. You might get them a cake with a picture of them printed on the icing (done professionally, of course). You could simply get them a picture frame with lots of photographs that capture the fun memories you’ve shared over the years. A personalized present is a perfect present.

The useful present.

One of the best kinds of present you can buy for somebody is a useful one. If you’re really stuck as to what you should buy for your loved one this year then stop thinking about luxuries and start thinking about necessities. We’re all missing practical things in our life. Perhaps your best friends purse is looking old and worn-out, so you could buy her a new one. Of course, this suggestion can be interpreted in a million different ways depending on the person for whom you’re buying a gift.

Ask yourself what you know about the person in question. What are they missing in their life? What’s useful to them? Buying a practical present that fills a gap in somebody’s life is a great way of showing them that you care. They’ll know that you listen to them and want to make their life better. It’s really one of the best types of present you can give. Even a bottle of wine is a practical present, right? It can be used, at least. That makes it useful, surely. Again, this point is as open to interpretation as you’d like it to be. It all depends on the nature of the person for whom you’re buying the gift. What’s useless to one person is practical to another.

Pink wine glasses and bottle |

Whether you’re simply choosing a birthday present for your little one or starting your Christmas shopping very early, don’t get worked up over gift-giving. The only thing that people expect from gifts is a display of affection. It’s just about proving that the person in question means a lot to you, even if you are just buying them a silly gift or hand-making a card.

We all get so caught up in the idea of how much we’ve spent on a present, but the quality of the gift is all that matters. And, sometimes, the best presents are the ones that aren’t store-bought. That personal touch can really prove to your loved one that you went above and beyond to put effort into their gift. Of course, if the person has told you what they want for their birthday or anniversary then you might as well keep things easy for yourself and just buy them that thing. That’s one less gift to worry about, right?

I hope I have made gift-giving much easier and made you excited for your next opportunity to give a gift to someone special!

The Little Touches Of A Busy Mom

Hey there mamas, hope you’re having a fine day!

We as busy moms can sometimes lose sight of the small things, and forget how much the little touches we provide actually matter to our kids. So today let’s talk all about these important little touches. Read on!

The Little Touches Of A Busy Mom

For a lot of mothers who juggle with the difficulties of managing a business and the challenges of looking after a child, there is nothing more heartbreaking than hearing your child complain about the lack of time you’ve got for them. Unfortunately, for a lot of mompreneurs, time is exactly what they struggle with on a daily basis. While every mother will tell you their child is their first priority and that they would always drop everything to look after a sick child, there are many situations where children may wrongly believe that your career is the priority. So it’s important to make sure that you’ve organized your life in such a way that your child knows he or she is what matters the most to you and that they are always in your heart. As a busy single mom, you need to be smart about how you show your affection, especially because your time is an essential part of your ability to generate the only income. With also being the only parent, your time is so much more important.

Their bedroom, their style

If you’ve been looking for an idea to treat your child, you can already forget about buying more toys or clothes. Indeed, you need to help them to create a space that is theirs at home, namely with a bedroom makeover. The bedroom can be a reflection of their personalities and tastes, and more importantly, it’s a way to show that you respect their choices. While you can surprise them with a fully planned project, it’s best to involve them from the early stages of the decor research until the selection of the furniture. As their mother, this will show them that you value their opinions. Read my post all about how to gift your kids with the best bedroom makeover ever! Click here!

Don’t let business trips come between you

Your career can sometimes take you out of town for a couple of days. If this is the case, and even though you know you can rely on a relative or a friend to look after your child, it’s important to plan something for each day. For instance, you could record your voice on a CD with professional sound mastering from a company such as Nationwide Disc for them to listen before going to bed. Or you could make a small DIY doll each time you have to spend a night away. Being apart from you is a big deal with a child, so you need to show that you still think of them.

Record yourself reading their favorite story

Quality time every day

Finally, at the end of the day, you may just want to relax in peace. But you need to block in your busy schedule time to cultivate your bond with your child. Creating quality time doesn’t mean that you can’t work during the day. This is why working from home is always the best choice for moms, but it’s still important to remember that you just need to put aside your business and household duties every evening for one hour to dedicate this time entirely to your child. Your time together can become a routine. It doesn’t have to be long if you’re busy. But you need to maintain a bond through games, reading or simply a chat about your respective days.

Busy mom with son -spending quality time |

Bonding while busy with home business management is never easy. But you’ll find that showing your child that you value their opinions, maintain a connection even when you’re away and make a point of spending time together when you’re at home can go a long way. Finding the work/mom balance isn’t always easy, but it’s worth the effort, always. Give this post a like, or share and remember that on this crazy single mom journey, you are never alone! 🙂

So, You Want To Be A Mompreneur? Avoid These 3 Mistakes

Become a mompreneuer, avoid these 3 mistakes |

Hey Mamas, How’s it going?

Are you currently or are you looking into becoming an awesome mompreneur? Then this post is so for you!

So, You Want To Be A Mompreneur? Avoid These 3 Mistakes

There’s no greater or nobler calling in life than being a parent. But if there’s one thing that parenthood does to a woman, other than giving her a profound sense of love and purpose that she had never previously thought possible, it’s giving her renewed sense of perspective. Motherhood represents a complete and irrevocable change to a woman’s psychology and the myriad of things that used to keep her awake at night simply pale in comparison to the sense of duty, responsibility, and accomplishment that comes with being a Mom. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that many women are reluctant to return to the workplace, especially against a backdrop of prejudice, discrimination, and mistrust toward new mothers.  It’s even more difficult as a single mom, our place is home with our children, otherwise, there will be no parent to actually raise them. So, insert amazing new mompreneur title here!

mompreneur |

In lieu of returning to work, many new or single mothers opt instead to develop their own businesses, thus becoming… mompreneurs. The women who choose to do this are trailblazers and should be commended for taking their futures (and those of their families) into their own hands. That said, the path of the momtrepreneur is perilous and full of pitfalls. In order to be a successful mompreneur, it’s vitally important to steer clear of these common mistakes…

Failing to find the balance

Like any self-employed person, a mompreneur walks a fine line in giving both her child and her business the attention they deserve, finding new routines to suit their dual role. Nearly all new mompreneurs dedicate too much time to their nascent businesses. While the first year of any business is a period of unparalleled hard work, but most new entrepreneurs don’t have to balance their commitments to their businesses with safeguarding another little life.

As a result, many new mompreneurs find themselves losing sleep, taking too little time to themselves and inevitably burning out.

Taking too much on themselves

Any business, especially a new business, wages a constant war against escalating overheads. Employees are one of the biggest overheads for a new business, and it can be tempting for new mompreneurs to try to do everything themselves. This is, however, the epitome of false economy. Taking on too much yourself will impede your business’ growth and make the who enterprise lonelier and more stressful than it needs to be.

A strong team will make your business a more enjoyable endeavor while facilitating real and lasting growth. If you’re hard pressed for cash, consider recruiting within the pool of Moms with whom you mix socially. They may appreciate the opportunity, even if you can’t pay them too much at the start. You can collaborate with them using free collaboration software like Slack and Asana and give them pay stubs using a check stub maker. When you’re business grows to new heights, you’ll be glad to have your team behind you.

Failing to outsource

Once again, the understandable desire to drive down overheads can lead to some wrongheaded decisions. While entrepreneurs are dynamic and multi-talented people, it’s important to realize that you can’t do everything yourself and some things are best left to the professionals. Digital marketing, for instance, may seem easy for the social media savvy but while nearly everyone knows how to create a presence and cultivate a following on social media, an outsourced digital marketing consultant will be able to help convert your online following into profitable business interest.

Avoiding these 3 missteps will be huge when creating your own home business. Always remember that you are doing something amazing, brave, and ultimately, what is best for your family. I hope these insights will help you soar high on your mompreneur adventures.

Super Storage Tips For Moms

Super storage tips for moms |

Hey mamas!

How’s it going? Are you enjoying 2018 so far? With so many resolutions for the new year, de-cluttering your life is usually one of them. So today I am bringing you super storage tips! Read on for all the best tips to start your de-cluttering journey.

Super Storage Tips For Moms

January is many things. It’s the month of starting diets and detoxes. It’s the time you assess your finances and make some cutbacks. It’s when everything goes back to normal after all the planning and excitement of Christmas. And, it’s the month that mom’s  all over the world attempt to find storage space for all of those gifts that seemed like a good idea at the time. Without upsetting the kids by demanding they say goodbye to any of their old toys that they haven’t touched for years but suddenly can’t bear to be without. The trick is organization. With just a little planning and some brilliant storage tips, you can easily fit in all those new toys, without resorting to a huge clearance.

The Living Room

When we’ve got young kids that need constant supervision, a lot of their toys live in the living room. While this is essential for keeping the kids safe and happy, it can quickly lead to clutter and mess. Which in turn can cause broken toys or even bones, as well as stressful hours spent trying to find things when we need them.

Fortunately, there are some great ways to make the most of your living room storage space. You could try wall mounted shelves, to keep all of your grown-up possessions out of the kid’s way. Then, you could create a kid’s zone, separated from the rest of the room with a large piece of furniture (perhaps the back of your sofa). This area should be a safe space where the kids are free to make a mess. Other options include over door hangers and large, shallow storage boxes that easily slide under your sofa or chairs.

Storage Tips For Moms |

Another fantastic option is toy rotation. Yes, their toys need to be played within the living room. But, they don’t play with everything at once. Keep a few of their favorite Christmas gifts out in the family room, and tidy the rest away in toy boxes in their rooms. Then, every few weeks, rotate the toys that you have out. When they are very young, this will be like getting new toys every few weeks as they’ll barely remember them.

The Bedroom

Kids bedrooms can be an absolute nightmare. When they are very young, their room can lose the personal touch as it starts to feel like little more than storage. Then, as they get older, you need to find a way to store toys where they can reach them, without it getting too messy. Check out my recent post all about decor ideas that double as storage for their bedrooms here.

The best way to handle kid-friendly storage is with large storage boxes that they can pull out and open themselves. Encourage them to keep things tidy and organized by having a fun clean-up session at the end of the day.

It can be tempting to keep all the outdoor toys inside, to keep them safe from both theft and weather. But, install a shed with Armstrong steel buildings bbb, and you won’t need to. Outdoor toys can be large and bulky. A shed is the perfect place to keep them and can be just as safe and secure as your home.

Are you ready to tackle the mess in your life? I know I am! Let’s do this! 😀

Wonderful Bedroom Decor Ideas For Kids

Wonderful bedroom decor ideas for kids! |

Hello mamas!

Today I wanted to bring you a treat for the kiddos, they deserve some love too! So read on for some wonderful bedroom decor ideas!

Wonderful Bedroom Decor Ideas For Kids

One of the responsibilities of motherhood is looking after our children. Whether it’s nursing them back to good health when they’re ill or surprising them on Christmas day with the toy they’ve been nagging you about for the past few months, we give a lot to our children in order to make them happy and fit for the world.

If you’ve been meaning to treat your child for a while, then giving them a bedroom makeover can transform their New Year and give them something to remember for the rest of 2018. To help you out, I’ve put together a list of wonderful bedroom decor ideas so that you can impress your child and give them a motivational boost to work hard and grow this year.

kids bedroom decor |

Step One: Research

Decor ideas will, of course, change depending on your child’s interests and their age. If they’re still young then they probably won’t care much for superheroes and dolls, but if they’re a little older (early teens) then they’re going to start asking for more privacy and you could give it to them with some light bedroom renovations or decor changes. If you want to treat your children, then you need to learn what their interests are. This should be relatively easy but it doesn’t hurt to ask them who their favorite cartoon characters are or what their favorite color is. As their mom who should already know these basics, but it’s a good idea to ask anyway to see if anything has changed. Kids do change their minds a lot!

If you’d prefer not to sneak around and do this as a surprise, then work together with your child to plan the ultimate bedroom renovation for them. Get a scrapbook (a digital or physical one, both work) and start compiling some ideas to help your child get the bedroom of their dreams.

Multifunctional Everything

Making the most of a child’s bedroom will occasionally involve multifunctional furniture. Whether it’s treehouse beds, a nested desk or even a transformable shelf, having multifunctional furniture can be both fun, interesting and space-saving. Just be careful of certain types of multifunctional furniture with hinges that could hurt your child if they aren’t being supervised.

Make the Walls Stand Out

Whether it’s wallpaper of their favorite color or cartoon characters or a simple and plain color that they can paint or draw on, like say chalk paint, making the walls stand out should be one of the first things you think about. While it can get messy, giving your child a rather blank design for their wallpaper could give them endless creative pleasure since it means they can paint, draw or put stickers on their wall. If you’d prefer not to get into such a mess, then getting a colorful wallpaper will do the trick.

Bed Linen Designs

Make bedtime special by replacing the linens on your child’s bed with something a bit more colorful, unique or closer to their interests. Some children want to sleep in superhero pajamas while others are fine getting to bed with a cartoon pillow. My son loves his Spiderman bed set! In addition to just changing the linen, you could also add a couple of plush toys if your child enjoys them.

A New Desk

Have a creative child or a young teenager that loves to use computers? Get them their own desk to make them feel a lot more “professional” and “grown-up” like the adults. You’ll need to get a table that is suitable for their size, but you could invest in an adjustable children’s table so it grows with them. Designing a bedroom that grows with your child can be difficult, but it’s all about having furniture that will scale to their needs as they get bigger. It takes a bit of planning and perhaps more money, but it’s worth it because you won’t need to replace furniture as they outgrow it. Since we homeschool, I am hoping to bring a desk into my son’s room when he’s a little older so he will have his own place to do his school work once he’s ready to do things on his own.

bedroom decor ideas for kids |

Storage for Everything

Storage, storage, storage! Your children are going to accumulate plenty of things in the future. Whether it’s toys, books, memorabilia or games, they’ll need plenty of storage to keep their things. While it’s a good idea to teach your child how to be frugal and live with less, we can’t strip children of their desires to own lots of toys and have lots of things to entertain themselves, to make sure you invest in storage that allows them to hold on to everything that’s precious to them. A basic shelf can work, but hidden storage under the bed or in seating can add lots of “secret” furniture where they can store special items. Just remember not to install too many wall shelves until they’re old enough to reach them because it could cause accidents.

I hope these have sparked some ideas that will help you design the most epic room for your kiddos! I’m sure they will love and appreciate it, have fun & get busy being your own Joanna Gaines of kid’s rooms! 🙂
